Fine first cage for hamster beginners
We've been using this cage for just over five days now, for a new pet hamster, so there may be further issues down the line. So far pros are:
* My kids love the bright colours and no-one can forget that the hamster is there (and thus to feed and clean it).
* It came with everything we needed to get started, equipment-wise
* It is simple to put together and take apart
* It is compact and doesn't take up lots of space
* It seems fairly sturdy and does what we wanted...the only escape has been down to human error (and hamster teeth/human hand interface)
* The price is right for a first (and possibly last) go at small mammal owning.

Cons include:
* The catches are tricky to get the hang of at first, and I can imagine an over-zealous child may break them easily - though to be fair, we haven't (yet)
* I think it may be a bit small in the long term. We have had trouble fitting in many toys/bed etc. I can already see us moving on to a bigger...
great hamster pad
Great size for my hamster. Easy to clean, although the water bottle did leak and flood his cage. I used a different one though and now have an extension tube running from the hole that the water bottle used to slot into so that he has his old cage and this new one joined.
Bad for syrians
When I bought This cage I thought it would contain the bedding but it doesn't it gos everywhere
1 the shelf is so flimsy and snapped when my hamster went on it
2 the water bottle isn't on the side it's actually at the back and it's not even the same bottle and it leaks
3the travel case is too small my hamster is squished in it
4 my hamster has escaped many times because she can opent the latch
5not a very large cages so no room to put toys in there
6 the wheel isn't silent and too small and sometimes it doesn't turn !

I do not recommend this cage

Hamster cage
We were really excited about this cage as it looked all singing and dancing. Putting it together was very fiddly, a child certainly couldn't have done it without damaging some of the plastic attachments. The clips did not actually hold the cage together properly and and meant cleaning it out was difficult. The water bottle leaked horribly which immediately soaked the space below - of which there isn't much. The ferris wheel was quite fragilely clipped in too. When the mice used the cage they weed and pooed in the wheel and tubing, which leaked out and was again very difficult to clean. They slept in the little tunnel bit, which meant they had very little else to do in the rest of cage, which is surprisingly small.
Death trap... PLEASE don't buy this item!
The other 1 star reviews say it all, really, I don't need to re-iterate how BAD this design is. But thought I would add that our hamster nearly died TWICE because of this piece of crap. When new, we put our furry little friend in her new home on a shelf next to the TV. Next morning, the cage is EMPTY - the door in the top hub feels secure from the outside but is easily opened from the inside. When we found her, she was covered in blood and brain damaged - she'd fallen from the shelf and the fall/landing had caused a massive brain hemmorage. We had to spoon-feed her soaked and mashed up food and water round the clock. God knows how but she made a full recovery (although now she's VERY jumpy).

We thought it was our fault and we hadn't shut the top properly, so put the cage back on the shelf. About a week later, I was reading and happened to look up just in time to see our hamster walking along the edge of the shelf again - the wheel had become dislodged this time, creating a...
Not good
The cage is a nightmare to put together and quite flimsy. The real killer with cage is when the hamster decides to load his food into his cheeks and disgorge it into the wheel. The wheel will then rattle horribly until it is emptied which is not easy.

For a few pounds more there a some really good Rotostack cages out there.

watch the penthouse sleeping area
We have this cage at home, the hamster loves it and manages fine. The ball is very noisy at night so we put in a running wheel inside the cage.
One bad thing about this cage is the penthouse sleeping area, we would go to check the hamster and she would be out. All she had to do was stand up and push to open the lid of this area and be out roaming about the room. We found out from a friend that theres done this also and the only option was selotape it down. So please do this before u need to chase the hamster around the room like we did before we found out how she was getting out.
Not good enough for me...
I didn't keep this house for my hamster long because it drove me mad when putting it back together after cleaning. Very difficult to clip things back where they should and then to keep it together. Also not the roomiest of cages and the ball was very noisy. I decided to give mine away - didn't feel as though I could ask any money for it due to me being so dissatisfied.

very good value for money ive seen inferior products at inflated prices but this was just the right size the hamster loves it and is very hygienic

Super Pet Crittertrail X Cage
My hamster loves it, the petting area is a great idea, easy to get the hamster out. When i first got this, assembling it wasnt too bad. Hamster wasnt sure of the tunnels and slide at 1st, but soon got the hang of it. I couldnt believe how quiet the ball was when he was in it, that was till after a few days. He decided to move his food and bedding in there, then runs round in it. Well you can imagine what noise you get when its going round. Everyday i empty it back into his bedding area, which isnt too hard to do. Despite this I do recommend this cage, if u have that extra bit off time to keep it maintained, as it keeps your hamster very active, but not if its for a childs bedroom.
perfect for my robo's
I honestly cannot fault this cage FOR DWARF HAMSTERS! - defo not for syrians! I have two dwarf hamsters and they just love this cage - they have space to run around even with a house in there that I purchased too! If you do not purchase a house then they will probably house themselves in the petting zone which will not be practical because there is poor ventilation up there. I just keep my treats up there for them, and a wooden stick fo them to chew.

The wheel just needs to have olive oil put on it like the instructions say in order to stop the noise, once you have done that the noise will stop - and I keep my cage in my bedroom :)

i have a slightly different Crittertrail Z
and its fantastic so ordered the crittertrail Y for my granddaughters christening present they are
6 and 4yrs old so i didnt want to buy the obvious christening gifts
i did ask mum first and put it together yesterday
really easy to assemble
in fact i want one now for my hamster as the minded children i have love it

Too small for Syrians
I bought this for my Syrian hamster, planning to connect it to a homemade bin cage, but then I found my hamster was way too big to comfortably get through the tubes. When she eventually forced herself in them, they pulled back her skin making her shut her eyes, and she stretched to almost double her usual length in order to fit her body in the tubes. I would recommend for dwarf hamsters, but definatly a waste of money for Syrians.
Great for Dwarves
I have been using this cage for many years now for my dwarves (Chinese, Russian and Campbells) and it is an excellent product. the wheel can be a bit noisy, but if you rub a little vegetable oil on the wheel mount that helps a lot. I would recomment this cage to anyone planning on Keeping dwarve species, but would STRONGLY urge people NOT to get this with the aim of keeping a Syrian. (It is far too small and the Syrian will quickly outgrow it).
Very Good
This Hamster home is really very good, my hamster is very happy in it. But at night, when she becomes active and goes on her wheel it is VERY noisy, like you can hear it throughout the house!
