NOT suitable for degus!
FOR RATS: This is an OK cage for one or two rats (babies or older ones, too small for young active ones), but the wired bottom is an absolute no-no for any rodent as it can cause a very painful condition called bumble foot! On mine I've covered it with thick plastic and since it's a "retirement" cage for my older rats they don't chew it and the paws are protected. The pine shelves will get very smelly from the urine overtime, but that's expected. It's not difficult to put it up (it come flat packed) but it's a bit fiddly. Also some bars are coming apart and you need a solder to fix it. The trays make cleaning easier, as the poop just drops down - to make it even easier I line the trays with kitchen roll or paper based cat litter so there's no need to wash them everyday. The accessories are a bit odd, hay rack is useless for rats, the other rectangular bit (shown at the top) I have no clue what it's for, but the extra shelf and the hammock are a nice addition. Don't Bother!
I bought this cage from the shop I got my Ratties from, It seemed pretty big on the shelf and was cheap.
But I've ended up having to buy a bigger and better cage for them anyways.
It is not big enough for two young Rats! They need more room to climb and explore, this cage doesn't offer that, the wood gets smelly and dirty quickly and it's hard to clean as well.
The cage design is pretty useless, the wire bottom means food goes straight through not to mention the problems it can cause on feet! The litter trays seem like a good idea but it just makes it more difficult to clean.
Once the cage is put together, it is difficult to take apart making cleaning a nightmare!
